The taillamps that had been a part of the RS appearance package in 2011 and a rear spoiler are now standard on all trims. A new Rear Vision Package adds a rearview camera system and an auto-dimming mirror to the existing Rear Park Assist feature. Interior updates include a revised instrument panel appearance, with new instrument graphics and trim, as well as a new steering wheel design and a power lift feature for the front passenger seat. The 45th Anniversary Package will be offered on Camaro's top two trim levels (2LT and 2SS) for both coupe and convertible body styles, and includes unique hood and deck stripes, new-design 20-inch wheels in dark silver, 45th Anniversary embroidery and badges, and red, white and blue stitching. Overall, the 2012 Camaro offers strong acceleration with any engine; head-turning looks; good V6 fuel economy; capable handling, and a very impressive new model, the ZL1. Powering the 2012 Camaro The new 2012 Camaro ZL1 comes with a variant of the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 found in the Cadillac CTS-V and Corvette ZR1. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, with a six-speed automatic being optional. The ZL1 also boasts other unique upgrades, including adaptive suspension dampers, Brembo brakes, a dual-mode exhaust, massive performance tires and a sportier steering wheel. Here it cranks out over 570 horsepower, making the 2012 ZL1 the quickest, most capable Camaro ever. The Camaro LS and LT are powered by a 323-hp direct-injected 3.6-liter V6 with a six-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic transmission. The SS's 6.2-liter V8 generates 426 horsepower with the standard six-speed manual, and 400 horsepower with the optional six-speed automatic with sequential shift control. 2012 Chevy Camaro Design The 2012 Camaro is available in three trims: LS, LT and SS, as well as the all new ZL1. Standard equipment on all Camaros includes independent rear suspension, StabiliTrak stability control with traction control, six airbags, air conditioning, OnStar and SiriusXM satellite radio. The LT adds fog lights, 18-inch alloy wheels and power seats, while the SS features unique front fascia, sport suspension, Brembo brakes, and a limited slip differential. The available RS Package includes 20-inch aluminum wheels with performance tires and distinctive high-intensity headlights with a "halo ring" display. Optional equipment includes Bluetooth wireless connectivity, power sunroof, performance tires, Boston Acoustics sound system and a variety of exterior stripe packages. With design cues evocative of the legendary 1969 model, the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro combines the spirit of the classic American muscle car with the fuel efficiency, safety, handling, technology and build quality expected in a modern performance coupe. Inside the new Camaro The 2012 Chevy Camaro is available as a four-seat coupe or convertible. Packages include the 1LT, which adds 18-inch alloy wheels, foglamps and eight-way power seats. The Convenience and Connectivity package adds to the 1LT remote ignition, an iPod interface and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls. The 2LT includes those items plus 19-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors, auto-dimming rearview and driver-side mirrors, extra gauges, a head-up display, rear park assist, a rearview camera, heated front seats, leather upholstery and a nine-speaker Boston Acoustics sound system. The 1SS is equipped similarly to the 1LT but adds a V8, 20-inch wheels, a sport-tuned suspension and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The 2SS essentially features the 1SS's performance bits with the 2LT's convenience and luxury features. The RS package (available on all trims but the LS) adds 20-inch wheels and xenon headlights. A sunroof is optional on all coupes but the LS, while a variety of exterior stripes and trim items are available across the board. 2012 Camaro ZL1 The new Camaro ZL1 is a fitting homage to the legendary ZL1 high-performance engine option for the 1969 Camaro that was favored among acceleration addicts and bench-racing braggarts. The new ZL1 model includes the goodies that typically come with the 2SS option package on the regular Camaro, including power seats, steering-wheel audio controls, Bluetooth, rear parking assist and camera, and a Boston Acoustics premium sound system. There will also be plenty of ZL1 badges inside and outside of this high-powered Camaro. The dual-mode exhaust makes the ZL1 plenty loud, while the Magnetic Ride Control suspension won't make the car completely unwieldy in daily-driving situations. It will have Tour and Sport selectable ride modes. Unlike the Shelby GT500, the Camaro ZL1 will be available in all the same colors as the current Camaro, but with the black carbon-fiber hood cover, and the only interior color will be black. There are new 20-inch wheels and Goodyear Supercar F2 tires. Conclusions The 2012 Chevy Camaro offers thrill seekers an answer. The structure is rigid, helping make the turn-in precise for a car this size; the grip is secure, and the damping is solid and supple, with both the V6 and firmer V8. The front suspension uses struts, and the rear is an independent multi-link that's rubber isolated. With a variety of trim levels available, the Camaro Convertible, which was new last year, and the all new Camaro ZL1, the 2012 Camaro is sure to impress.
