2012 Chevy Sonic Harrisburg PA

Check out our new 2012 Chevy Inventory in PA!

2012 Chevy Sonic PAThe 2012 Sonic is an all new model from Chevy, and is meant to be the replacement for the current Aveo as the smallest, most economical car that the automaker sells in North America. The 2012 Sonic is significantly different from the outgoing Aveo, with all-new exterior and interior styling as well as fresh engine and transmission options. Engine choices are the same ones you'll find in the Chevrolet Cruze, including a turbocharged offering.  Standard safety equipment includes 10 standard air bags, antilock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, and OnStar with Automatic Crash Response. The Sonic is offered in two body styles, a four-door sedan and a sporty five-door hatchback, in LS, LT, and LTZ models. The Sonic is about six inches shorter and 500 pounds lighter than the larger Chevrolet Cruze with which it shares powertrains.

Powering the new Chevy Sonic

The front-wheel drive Sonic is offered in two body styles; sedan and hatchback. All models come standard with a 138-hp 1.8-liter engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. There are two available transmissions, a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic. A 138-hp 1.4-litre engine is also available on the LT and LTZ trims.  The turbocharged engine makes 138 horsepower.

The Sonic offers consumers and opportunity to buy a subcompact with a more aggressive look, compared to the more common bubbly, cute look. Chevrolet says it took design inspiration for the headlights from the motorcycle world. There isn't much of a gap between the tire and fender, a characteristic possibly the result of Corvette engineers who tuned the ride and handling.

Inside the new Chevy Sonic

The inside of the Sonic takes inspiration from motorcycles. The instrument cluster is one of the more identifiable products of that approach, attaching a floating digital LCD readout to an analog speedometer. Trunk space for the sedan has increased from what the Aveo offered, growing from 12.4 cubic feet to 14 cubic feet. The hatchback sees added cargo room behind the rear seat. An available remote start is a feature not commonly seen in this segment. Other options include heated front seats and a sunroof. Additional accessories will be available for the Sonic, ranging from the fashionable to the functional, such as chrome mirror caps and door handles to cargo nets and trunk trays. Additional graphics packages also will be available in the future. In order to provide younger buyers with easy ways to customize their new Sonics, Chevrolet just announced the first batch of what it calls Z-Spec accessories for the 2012 Sonic. The Sonic Z-Spec portfolio includes Color Out accent packages with contrasting-color exterior parts and graphics that express the car's performance characteristics. These Color Out packages feature black accents on a Summit White Sonic and Summit White accents on an Inferno Orange Sonic.
